Salvage Sunday (12-3pm)
On the first Sunday of every month, the CCC hosts Salvage Sunday from 12-3pm. We bring out bikes and parts that we aim to recycle and sell them cheaply to the public before taking them to the scrap yard. It’s a great chance to get a project rolling on the cheap, snag some parts for some art, or just meet some like-minded, DIY bicycle lovers! Not only does Salvage Sunday offer a chance for affordable bikes and parts, it’s part of our goal to recycle or reuse as much material as possible. In 2019 the CCC sold over 17,000 pounds worth of material through Salvage Sundays. Furthermore, we kept 66,000 pounds of metal out of the landfill through our recycling efforts!
Every Sunday is also an opportunity to volunteer with the CCC and help keep as much material as we can out of the landfill. From 12-3 on every Sunday come work with CCC staff to harvest useful parts from broken bikes, separate rubber from metal, and aluminum from steel so that we can recycle most efficiently. Learn a bit about the workings of a bike without any fear of damaging parts! Contact the volunteer coordinator ([email protected]) with questions or for more info. Every CCC volunteer must participate in an orientation on the first Tuesday of every month before spending time in the shop.
