Ainsworth Elementary students organize record-breaking bike collection
Last weekend was a record-breaking bike collection for the students of Ainsworth Elementary. The students of Mrs. Myers 3rd grade class organized the collection and helped to collect 50 bikes of all sizes, shattering their previous collection record by over a dozen!
Here at the Community Cycling Center, we rely on bike donations from the community to support our adult and youth programs. One of the ways that people can help us is by organizing their own bike collection. From the start of the school year in September, Ainsworth students advertised the collection by making hand-drawn posters and giving classroom presentations. Last Sunday, their hard work paid off as the donors brought in many bikes, sometimes 2 or 3 at a time, to the front field of Ainsworth.
We are excited to report that more than half of these bikes will be refurbished for this year’s Holiday Bike Drive. With the amazing support of parent volunteer Jen Andres, a little hot chocolate, and some elbow grease, students quickly cleaned the bikes as they were donated, helping to start the process of their refurbishment.
Thank you to Ainsworth Elementary and the generous community members who supported us with their bicycle donations!
