Community Camp & Outride Fund
Camp season is here and our youth programs team just wrapped-up their second week of Community Camp in Cully!
The weeks were full of neighborhood bike rides, snacks, games, parks, more snacks, and more bike rides. Some of the campers had even attended our Learn To Ride event the week before and were riding along in a group for the first time!
When we met up with Camp on a sunny morning in June, the group had just finished a short neighborhood bike ride that ended at Kʰunamokwst Park. There, they took a break from riding to decorate backpacks, eat some snacks, and make sun-prints from leaves and other found objects. This is one of the best parts of Community Camp, there’s always something new! While riding is many of the campers’ favorite activity, we don’t force bikes to be the center of attention. Instead, bikes are treated as a fun way to connect other fun activities.
We’re also pleased to announce that we’ve received another round of funding from Outride to support Community Camps this year!
From Outride, “The impact we’re seeking is an acceleration of a wide variety of pathways for more youth, especially those from low-income backgrounds and under-resourced communities, to get on bikes and experience the life-changing benefits of cycling.”
