End Family Separation
The Community Cycling Center is appalled by the administration’s current policy of separating children from their parents.
Separating children from their parents fits the United Nations definition of genocide. Although we know that America has a long history of doing just that to black, brown, and immigrant children (through slavery, Native American boarding schools, and other atrocities) we are still heartbroken to see it happening today, at this scale.
We believe in the importance of community. We believe that families are the cornerstone of community. We know that these separations are doing irreparable harm to the children.
We believe that forced separations must stop immediately, that ALL affected families must be reunified with great haste. Although the Administration clearly does not intend to reunify families, it IS possible and it MUST be done.
We encourage our supporters, friends, and all people to all take part in the nation-wide protests of these inhumane policies on Saturday, June 30th.
The Portland protest will be in downtown, at the North Park Blocks, (NW Park and Davis) from 11am to 1pm. If you aren’t in Portland, please find an event near you, or create one!
There has also been an ongoing occupation in protest at the ICE center in SW Portland.
