Gamma Ray Gorgeous
For some, a gamma ray might simply refer to a high energy photon, but for some lucky kid at Holiday Bike Drive, Gamma Ray is the sweet violaceous Gary Fisher bicycle they’ll be taking home after Holiday Bike Drive.
This above photos is of Gamma after she first came to us as a drop-off donation at our shop, where we accept bike donations from 10am to 6pm Tuesday through Sunday. Clearly, she was a beauty to start, but in need of a little TLC to return her to her former glory.
At our Tuesday night drop-in volunteer night, high school students Ari Freitag and Jackson Niemann cleaned Gamma, pampering her with the attention and care she is certainly entitled to. Jackson has been volunteering for the Community Cycling Center since he was 12 or 13. Incidentally, if you’re interested, we our drop-in volunteer night happens every Tuesday from 7pm to 9:30. If you’ve never volunteered before, be sure to come to the orientation, which happens the first Tuesday of every month at the same time.
Darrin Joos, a sales associate at the Hollywood Bike Gallery, put the final touches on Gamma including some spiffy blue handlebar grips and safe, new tires. Every year, Bike Gallery owner–and Community Cycling Center advisory board member–Jay Graves encourages his employees to come out to two Bike Gallery volunteer nights at the Community Cycling Center.
On November 29, sixteen Bike Gallery employees had a record-breaking night! They completed 31 bikes, the most bikes EVER completed during one volunteer night. (On average, a volunteer group finishes about 15!) Thanks to these Bike Gallery folks, Gamma and 30 of her cohorts are now ready to roll…into the arms of Holiday Bike Drive participants.
