Photos and recap of The Bicycle Ball
By Lillian Karabaic, Development Coordinator
What a night! Community Cycling Center’s 20th Anniversary Bicycle Ball was well-attended with 95 guests. The evening was filled with an air of celebration as dapper duds were donned, photos snapped, and party goers danced the Charleston and the Lindy Hop with drinks in hand. Together, we raised $10,129 during this long anticipated evening of fun. The Swingtown Vipers kicked off the evening with incredible live music, and XRAY FM’s DJ closed down the house by pumping out great tunes from the roaring 20s to swinging 50s at the end of the night.
The stars of the night were carefully crafted balance bikes hand built by five members of the Community Cycling Center’s staff. One little bike was made entirely from full-sized Schwinn parts. The joinery on the little fellow was absolutely splendid, with as much of the original bike left in place as possible. Another bike was made from Bamboo, while a third was entirely crafted (except for the wheels) from skateboards. Indeed, all five bicycles are the bees knees and simply must be seen! Stop up at our shop on 17th and Alberta to see these dandy horses on display (and available to bid on) through mid-December.
A night like this simply couldn’t be had without some extra-special support from our community.
A huge thanks goes out to The Secret Society for hosting us, Dystopia Vodka for the delicious hand-crafted drinks, and XRAY.fm and The Swingtown Vipers for providing the dancing tunes. Thank you to our winter campaign sponsor, Lam Research, and to Cyclone Bicycle Supply’s support of our event. And of course, to you, our champions and advocates. You are the cat’s meow.
