Bike Gallery staff turn wrenches for Holiday Bike Drive
From the day the Community Cycling Center opened its doors, the Bike Gallery has been a huge supporter of our work.
Seventeen years ago, a Bike Gallery mechanic, Brian Lacy, dreamt up and started this organization. Jay Graves, Bike Gallery’s owner, was our first board chair and remains one of our most generous donors and trusted advisors. Bike Gallery will also support our skills park and bike hub we’re planning to introduce at New Columbia.
Every December, a skilled, enthusiastic group of Bike Gallery staff convenes at our bike shop to help refurbish the final bikes for the Holiday Bike Drive. We always enjoy chatting and eating pizza with the crew as they make quick work of coaster brake adjustments and training wheel installations.
This year, a crew of 16 mechanics came up to the shop, repairing just over a dozen bikes in under two hours and offering up some amazing first-bike stories. Our personal favorites included time trials on a Stingray tandem, an epic wipeout on Ninja Turtle coaster and the vivid description of a unicorn-adorned beauty known as the Fantasia.
We are so grateful for the many ways that Bike Gallery supports our work, and want to thank their staff for once again helping us reach our production goal for the Holiday Bike Drive. We’re already looking forward to next year!
