The Community Cycling Center’s Bike Drives have changed the lives of children since 1995, you can also make a difference by donating to our Community Bike Drives today!
Biking is at the heart of what makes Portland great. However, the cost of purchasing a bicycle is a major obstacle for many families. Our Community Bike Drives and Holiday Bike Drive provides children with a safe refurbished bicycle, new helmets, and basic safety education.
Community Bike Drive
Community Bike Drives was created to meet the needs of more kids throughout the year with the intention of making it as low-barrier as possible for families. That’s why we choose to deliver bikes door-to-door every spring, summer and fall, serving upwards of 75 different families!
Holiday Bike Drive
Traditionally, Holiday Bike Drive brings the empowerment and health benefits that come from owning and riding a bike to over 300 children every December. Due to COVID-19, we are temporarily moving away from the large celebratory gathering. Instead, we will be following the door-to-door bicycle delivery format this December.
Who can receive a bicycle?
The Holiday Bike Drive is designed to benefit children ages 3-8 from families living on low incomes who qualify for free or reduced lunch at school and who do not currently have a bicycle. Registration is not open to the general public; only our partner agencies can register children.
When does registration happen?
Our partner agencies and schools will register children for the Holiday Bike Drive beginning in the fall. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. We will update our partner agencies and schools list in the fall. Please contact our partner agencies and schools directly in order to register your child.
How can I support the Holiday Bike Drive?
All bicycles are generously donated by community members at our neighborhood bike shop and at bike collections around the Portland Metro area. You can also sponsor a child’s first bike for $200 by making a gift today. Holiday Bike Drive and Community Bike Drives are made possible by year-round support from our volunteers.
