It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Holiday Bike Drive season has arrived!

500 children to receive lovingly refurbished bicycles and so much more this December

HBD 07Continuing a 13-year year tradition, we will provide refurbished bicycles, new helmets, and basic safety education to 500 children from low-income families at this year’s Holiday Bike Drive.

Why bicycles?
We have found that early exposure, education, and encouragement are critical elements of developing healthy, sustainable, lifelong behaviors. A child’s first bike helps put them on the road to outdoor activities and fosters a sense of self-confidence and independence.

Where do the bicycles come from?
Truly a community effort, Holiday Bike Drive bicycles are donated by neighbors all over the Metro area at more than 15 collections throughout the year. More than 1,000 volunteers spend over 3,000 hours cleaning and repairing the bicycles over the course of the year.

What happens at the event?
500 children with their families in tow. 250 volunteers shepherding children through helmet fitting, bike rodeo, and safety education stations in a festively decorated hall. Translators chattering in Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Russian. There will be live music. There will be food. It is a circus of bike love.

How can I refer a child?
