Join us at the Grand Central Bakery Fair on September 18th
On Saturday, September 18th, Portland’s Grand Central Bakery will be putting a city spin on the classic county fair at the first annual Grand Central Bakery Fair: An Urban Farming Expo and Bicycle Rodeo. A celebration of harvest and community, this all-day, family event will benefit Zenger Farm and the Community Cycling Center.
Special guest Novella Carpenter, urban farming expert and author of Farm City, will kick off the program in the morning by sharing her experience creating and maintaining an urban farm in her Oakland, CA home. The day continues with a host of demonstrations, contests, and activities for the entire family, including traditional (and not-so-traditional) fair favorites like baking and preserving contests, a judging of urban-grown produce, seminars, and a bicycle rodeo.
We will be on hand to lead the bike rodeo for kids and families and to give pointers on bike handling and safety skills from 12:30 – 3:30. Main stage bicycle events will include a family bike safety relay race at 12:30 and a slow race competition at 2:15.
