Portland Wheelmen Repair Over 20 Bikes for Holiday Bike Drive
For over a decade, the Portland Wheelmen Touring Club has generously and enthusiastically supported the Community Cycling Center. Every winter, they bring in volunteer crews to help us prepare for the Holiday Bike Drive, and some of our most dedicated supporters – superheroes like Bob Wong and Dave McQuery – first connected to us through one of these volunteer wrench nights.
This fall, we again had the great pleasure of hosting the Wheelmen in the bike shop. Over the course of three Fridays in November, superstar organizers Karyn and John Mardis brought nearly forty volunteers to our shop. Together they cleaned and repaired more than twenty bikes for this year’s Holiday Bike Drive. And many of these volunteers also signed up to volunteer at the event itself, escorting kids and fitting helmets.
We cannot thank the Portland Wheelmen enough for their support, and we look forward to many more years of working together to make bicycle dreams come true.
In case you’re not familiar, the Portland Wheelmen Touring Club was founded in 1971 to promote cycling and to provide a social organization for bicyclists. You can find much more info on their website.
