Volunteer Spotlight: Quin McIntire
One day last fall Quin showed up at our shop. Then he came by the next day. And the day after that, and almost every day since. From the first time he walked through our doors, Quin has asked amazing questions, brightened everyone’s day with his curious energy, and impressed us with his all-around competence. At 12 years old, he is already a far better mechanic than this humbled Volunteer Manager.
Quin got started volunteering on Drop-In Nights, quickly became our youngest certified mechanic, and now regularly shares his skills with volunteers four times his age. He also drops by to recycle bikes on Sundays, kept the atrium stocked with shiny new bikes at the Holiday Bike Drive, and helped with anything and everything during the busiest days of our shop remodel.
How long have you been volunteering at the Community Cycling Center? How did you start?
About five months, I started getting into bikes when I heard about cyclocross.
Why do you volunteer here?
Because it is a good way to help people in need and I enjoy working with other people.
What is your favorite thing to do as a volunteer?
Prepare bikes for the Holiday Bike Drive.
You hang out at the shop a lot. Why do you enjoy spending so much time there?
Everyone at the Community Cycling Center is very welcoming and happy. I like to walk into a room and instantly feel welcome by friends and family.
Tell us about your dream bike.
I already have all the bikes I would want or NEED, but if I had a dream bike it would have a comfortable saddle, it would be fast, and have plenty of extra space for all of the junk I have and don’t need.
What do you do when you’re not here?
I like to hang out with my brother, work on other bikes and play my saxophone.
What would your bio-pic be called? Who would play you?
The Continuation starring Will Ferrell – he’s quick thinking and FUNNY!
